: Director of Library Operations, Chancellor Robert R Livingston Masonic Library of the Grand Lodge of New York INSTITUTIONAL SUMMARY: The Chancellor Robert R Livingston Masonic Library of the Grand Lodge of New York maintains one of the world's largest collections of books, archival holdings and physical artifacts relating to the subject of Freemasonry. For over 150 years, the Library has pursued its mission to collect, study and preserve the Masonic heritage, focusing its efforts on the history and impact of Freemasonry in New York State. The Livingston Library has its main site in New York City, with another site located on the Masonic Care Community Campus in Utica, New York. The Library is chartered by the Regents of the State of New York and functions as a public research institution not only for New York Freemasons, but for interested researchers around the world. The Library enjoys 501.c-3 status under the regulations of the Internal Revenue Service. The Library holds approximately 60,000 volumes in its collection. There is also an extensive and unique museum collection of some 40,000 physical artifacts and documents of historic importance to both New York and world Freemasonry. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management and administration of all activities related to operations of the Chancellor Robert R Livingston Masonic Library and its museum component, helping to shape and enhance policies for use of the collection. The Director will be the Institution s principal point of contact and outreach for the customer base and will be responsible for promoting the Library s programs and enhancing customer access to the same. The Director will coordinate the Library s work with the long-term goals set by the Board of Trustees and the executive officers of the Grand Lodge of New York to assure that these strategic aims are incorporated into the Library s operations.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS: 1)Administer all policies and regulations regarding the accession, curation, use and display of Library materials and the artifact collection; 2)Oversee the circulation, cataloging and organization of the books, physical artifacts and documentary items in the collection; 3)Coordinate the performance of reference work, as necessary, for the benefit of fraternal members, the general public and, on occasion, for the Executive Officers of the Grand Lodge of New York; 4)In conjunction with the Board of Trustees, review the long-term goals and oversee their implementation; 5)Work with the Board of Trustees to develop and implement institutional policies, and maintain recognized professional standards in all operations; 6)Supervise the work of other Institution staff; 7)Monitor the Institution s budget, including accounts payable, documenting donations and maintaining related correspondence; 8)Represent the institution with presentations at lodge meetings, conferences, other Masonic Libraries and periodic lectures sponsored by the Library. 9)The Director is expected to be familiar with computer technology, professional database management and the use of social media for purposes of information sharing and promoting the goals and mission of the Library and the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York.
REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION M.L.S. or similar degree from accredited institution. EXPERIENCE Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Though not required, Masonic affiliation would be useful in the performance of the Director s duties.
